When will we see the end of root canals
Root canal treatment makes dentists a fair bit of money , but it isn’t a friend of mine! I had the treatment done, and by informing you of the process you can better prepare yourself for the treatment.
Once you are ready to undergo the treatment, dentist will administer a local anaesthetic and proceed with removing the pulp. The dentist will enter the pulp chamber through the top (crown) of the tooth, removing the pulp and significantly enlarging the root canal to enable the cleaning and filling process.
The duration of the treatment will depend on the number of root canals the tooth has, which can be up to three, but during the course medication will be administered to stop subsequent infection. When cleaned and ready the root canal will be securely filled and sealed, often with a crown put in place to strengthen the whole tooth.
The procedure really wasn’t painful for me at all, but I must admit to being a little scared of the dentist chair and so will do my best to take better care of my teeth. If you ever do require the procedure don’t be afraid to ask your dentist questions, they are there to help and often have excellent advice for the prevention of further treatment through every day oral and dental care.
